What is a news feed?
A newsfeed is a standard format for receiving updated news headlines from a variety of sources. A news source, like Ag Equipment Power Magazine, will offer a list of headlines with a link to more information, and make it available on their Web site. Software on your computer (called a "reader" or "aggregator") or another Website can gather the headlines from a variety of sources that you have selected and display them for you in one convenient location.
Why Use Newsfeeds?
Syndicated news feeds make your life easier since don't have to visit each site individually to see what's new. You simply scan headlines or brief article summaries and click to read the full text. In addition, Websites can easily share news items in a standard format.
What is RSS and XML?
RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication." That's the process of providing news feeds as explained above.
XML standard for "Extensible Markup Language". It is a common standard for storing information in a text file. RSS news feeds are stored in XML format.
